I know you've done a series of these, and each one has its own unique feelings; but I'll comment on this one for now, and let you know I've seen them all, and loved them all equally. (My comments in your gallery take an unusual amount of time---something I wholly embrace and love doing ((this isn't a complaint!)); but I'm supposed to be resting now, so I unfortunately have to leave my current comments at 5, and be back for more soon.)
This is awash in the long majestic lines of a lion's coat, they flow down the 'canvas' like rippling waterfalls. The biggest lion's mane seems to be the 'all-encompassing' one, making not just a backdrop for the other lions, but a big plush 'carpet' which they can fall into, feel protected by, and which they actually emerge out of. You also have allowed some very bright hues to dominate this image---somewhat unusual for what I"ve seen of yours, because you usually have a dramatic mix. But the light, here, instead of giving a feeling of "sameness," gives a feeling of the illumination at the heart of family. And, more, one might expect all this hair to have lots of shadow in it; but you've allowed the light to flow everywhere, which makes it feel very sunny and uplifting. This is a very uplifting portrait. And kudos for creating so much diversity of hue, line and the natural staining of age, throughout the coat, mane, etc: Your articulations have given this mass of lion's coat all kinds of rhythm, line, melody, etc. It's positively alive.
You have greens and yellows here. And mustard yellows. And the lions emerge with full authority, even as they seem to emerge from the parent's huge mane. The blue eyes are striking against all that white and yellow and so on; and, if one looks closely, they can see that you used lots of similar blues throughout the lions' coats, in harmony with the eyes. (Well, they're really aqua-green-blue---they aren't what we'd normally call 'blue'.) And---a very sweet touch---you painted the little patches of sky (in the top corners) with a similar blue. Sweet harmony.
You've composed it as a kind of waterfall, coming down from the top: The lions seem to fall down with the flow. (I mean, fall into sight, not 'fall down', trip and injure themselves...) They appear, as we go down the image. And they're composed in a kind of semi-circle of family. Also, as one often sees in your nature work, your lowest level has some darker hues which, here, are almost golden; and which stand upright like grasses---I love how you turn hair into plantlife!---or like pure flame. A conflation (mane into grass and flame) that one is used to, from you, where you find blended spirits in all the things you paint.
Finally, all the lions are in the left half, yet you balance it with a big protective canopy of mane on the right. Family forever is all over this piece, it's a family resting against a huge embracing carpet, with total clarity in each creature, and total clarity in each strand of hair; and it's got a massive feeling. When I consider that I just commented on your dragonfly piece---which is so different from this---I keep coming back to the huge variety of your work. This piece shines and it's just beautiful.

Mark, I'm so glad you enjoyed this artwork. And your comment, as always, is awesome and inspiring. I always love working with white lions, as they are my spirit animal. I feel a deep connection to them. When I was working on this piece, I wanted the family unit to be surrounded by the lion's mane, enveloped within its protection, much like lions are hidden and protected within the African brush. I'm so grateful for the time you take to view my work, and thank you so much for your wonderful comment. You always connect with my art with a deep understanding, as well as a unique perspective.
