Description

The monsoon has arrived. Instead of being nearly 50 C for a high now it is only slightly more or less than 40 C for a high, but the Dew Point is up and it feels more miserable. There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms throughout the State with possible flash flooding. Last Saturday 9 people died while being washed away by a flash flood north of Payson on the Mogolllon Rim. The downpour that caused the flash flood occurred 8 miles upstream and the people that got killed were totally unaware of what happened 8 miles away. There is no cell phone coverage and there was no way to warn anybody downstream. Since the area had experienced a recent forest fire there was absolutely no vegetation cover that could have slowed down the runoff. Last Friday and Saturday there were isolated thunderstorms, downpours, and dust storm throughout the Phoenix area. But I did not get one drop of rain. Then on Sunday, at 22:00 it came out of nowhere and hit the West Valley, I received 1.65 inches, and Litchtfield Park officially 2.05 inches, so did Luke AFB. Last night it started again, lightning in all direction and isolated showers throughout the State. This picture was taken at Luke AFB while I found an excuse to go there and drop off a book and go to the commissary, just so I could use my windshield wipers. They hadn't been used in over 6 month. This picture was 18 July 2017, Sig...

I know what you mean. it can rain two blocks away and I will not get a drop. very intense sky . I was following the story about the 9 family members being swept away. I have always heard that it is not safe to hang out in washes because of flash flooding
