"hey....don't throw rocks at the house. my mom says the guy who owns it is weird." "yeah, mine too." "he could be a ghost, or something"...."ya hear that?" they bolt.
many of us had houses, in childhood, that we feared. i booted around alot with my folks. when i was 10 we lived in the midwest. michigan, for a while. there was a blind man who walked 4 miles into town, each week. the kids were really scared of him. the teenagers made a point of stealing his watermelons, that summer. that was the year of Ed Gein, up in Wisconsin. i wasn't sad a bit, when we moved away, the following year.
out of the way, little houses, in out of the way little towns, scare me to this day.

This is exceptional - In rural Iowa there were many deserted "I heard it's haunted" houses and farms when I was growing up, each with it's own story. (My favorite was the house where some guy's uncle had his "hand blown off" by a cherry-bomb (fireworks) - Always wondered if it was supposed to be haunted by his HAND, since the guy was still alive.)
