Description

Mankind does not live by computer alone. anahata.c, take note. As part of a portfolio seeking a job/jobs back in the 20th century, I offered this airbrush art that I had previously performed in the early 1950s, done on art board, using a real airbrush with thin paints, attached to either a compressed air tank or to a motorized air compressor. I doubt if many of you were around back then to participate in or witness this art genre. The above was done not only with an airbrush alone, but also with plastic templates, masks, including torn shreds of paper, and then outlined at the end with special type pens and ink. A steady hand and a delicate touch was the name of the game. Anyway, this is the first one from those salad days of the several examples I will be posting. A ZOOM is highly recommended.

Deserves a 10 STAR rating. Understanding the fact that someone dropped a few bolts on your desk and said " make a drawing of these parts ". You then proceeded to measure out, sketch and then draw a mechanical drawing of the parts. Then with meticulous precision masked and then airbrushed the image. You hit this one out of the park. Great job DAD !!!!

I spent over 30 years doing stuff like this here in "Silicon Valley". I can honestly say "I miss it." If you really look at most of my postings in the gallery, you will notice the heavy design elements and organization in my images that belie my technical illustrator upbringing (LOL). You have brought a smile to my face and I thank you for that.

PS I still have my Thayer-Chandler, Iwata and Paasche airbrushes. 😁

This is beautiful work. I wasn't around in the 1950s, but I do use an airbrush when I'm building models.

Oh, I took note. I'm thrilled you posted these and that you want to post more. (I'd only seen a couple of line drawings, which were mightily impressive, including exacting angles and proportions.) I didn't know you did airbrush work.

I assume, from your words and from those of your son, that this was a several-stage process; and your son says you did a preliminary drawing first, then airbrush, etc. However you did it, it's all magic to me, as I've never used airbrushes, and you've got detailed line work as well as fine blends. The brush part is done as meticulously as the line work. This is most impressive. And considering this was for your portfolio---ie, you were simply showing 'samples' of your work---it's all the moreso, because you had to do it on your own motivation. It had to be a labor of love---with maybe some "I can't wait till this is finished!" attitude too...I can't speak for you, but the little technical illustration I did made me want to scream some days...though you're worlds better at it than I ever was. So glad you're posting these. Sterling.
