Description
First in a series of airbrush art I did solely for the purpose of just messing around, employing but one color. This, along with several others, was done in the early 1950s, applied on art board, using a real airbrush with thin paints, attached to either a compressed air tank or to a motorized air compressor. I doubt if many of you were around back then to participate in or witness this art genre. The above was executed not only with the airbrush alone, but also with masks of paper stock. In fact, the mountains in this case were created using sheets of torn paper as masks.
A steady hand and a delicate touch was the name of the game.
A zoom is highly recommended.

This is terrific. Your masking process is both simple and complicated at the same time. Requires a tremendous amount of pre-thought and vision to accomplish this so well. Love the angles and moreover the reflections. Great Job !

I'm glad to see this work is finally getting attention. This is a little piece of magic, Harry. It feels like a miniature, but it's filled with overlapping reflections and angles and wonderful grain. I have no idea how this is done---the masks, layering, the airbrushing: Your son seems to know a lot about it; I'm learning from his comments. But whatever you did, you got a luminous, soft, grainy landscape, with a mix of very geometric shapes and softer 'peak' shapes. Love the hues in the sky---I guess those soft edges are from the airbrush. I never expected this---technical work, yes, but a little airbrush landscape? A delightful surprise. (I dragged it off of my browser and opened it in Preview, because RR isn't giving full zooms in Safari! At least in my Safari. So I saw it full size that way.) Wonderful. A mix of painting and graphics. Man, you got some heavy duty stuff sittin' around in your archives!
