For Project Earthbound. A first draft of the concept for an advanced attack helicopter that transforms into a space-capable fighter. The notion is that when the pilot has the need for speed or to operate in vacuum, the rotors stop and fold up backwards, becoming an additional set of stabilizers/wings that increase the vehicle's stability but also enhance its maneuverability with powerful tip-mounted microthrusters. The main reactionless thrusters are mounted in the NOTAR tail boom, though I was thinking of adding some boosters up front. When the mission calls for bringing heavy firepower into a close environment like a city, where maneuverability is more important than speed, then the rotors operate as shown, and the vehicle acts as a regular helicopter. I used the Wasp from DAZ as part of the base. I'm considering possibly turning this into a full-blown transforming mecha, if I can figure out how to split the hull.
