Description

One enchanted day a rainbow turned all the doxies into rainbow colors. Impossible, you say. It's true. Wagging tails turned red and blue and long ears and longer bodies glowed yellow, green, and purple, too. And anyone who saw these rainbow doxies smiled. Wouldn't you? Rainbow Doxies 1 prose by Carol Cavalaris © This is the first in my new Rainbow Doxies Series, featuring one of my favorite dog breeds, and in remembrance of my two mini-doxies, Slinky and Flirt. They filled my world with color and joy. A mixed medium work created in Photoshop. Hope you enjoy. :o) CC Copyright Notice: My images do not belong to the public domain and may not be used for any purpose without my permission. I'm not officially "back", but I wanted to leave another comment in your exceptional gallery, and I'll leave more the next time I'm back (for a longer period). (I've seen everything, and the 3 images after your 2 doxie images are extraordinary.)

I loved these. When this one went up, even though it's not like almost anything I've seen of yours, I knew it was yours right away. I can feel the dedi to your two doxies and the love they gave you---you painted that love and joy. Doxies are almost always that semi-shiny brown, but you made them doxies of the heart-and-soul; or maybe what your beloved doxies became, in passing: Pure light and joy. Your strokes are simpler, as you seem to be going for a child-like simplicity (well, compared to your other pieces---these are still complex). So the strokes rush across them as if they were made of rushes of light and fire---only this fire is fire from another realm, it's purple and red and yellow and green---whole rainbows (you have one in the background too---with fairy tale stars: some actual 5 point stars, which tells us we're in the realm of childhood imagination). The topmost doxie is in mid leap or play or whatever, ears perched and having a great time. And the others all look at you, and I wonder if the bottom one doesn't know you intimately and is saying, "these are my brothers and sisters---they all thank you". Like Flirt and Slinky are introducing you to their friends.

And I love the simple patches of grass, with mist in between.

When you do something like this---a very childlike image with real simplicity---your intensity is still present; but it feels like a children's illustration, and it dances and pops off the page the way children play. It's you in fairytale/folktale mode. (Actually, all your images have those elements, but they predominate here.) Beautiful, playful, dancelike and sheer delight. Slinky and Flirt must have been whispering in your ear while you did this, guiding you to paint them the way they are now. (Over the rainbow bridge...) Wonderful. (And Carol, thank you for your exceptional replies to my comments...I truly don't expect them from you, esp with all you have to do; but they're wonderful, I learn the world from them each time you do them, as well as appreciate them greatly. As I do your comments to me, which I also don't expect but which are always so both perceptive and heartful; and I'm not 1/100th the artist you are.) (I almost never leave comments on comments, as I just never learned how to do that, while you are unmatched at that. But your comments are always from the center of you, which I deeply appreciate.)

You could make a separate book of images like this. Magic...

Mark, thanks so much for your delightful comment. I truly enjoyed creating this artwork, and began it soon after I said goodbye to Flirt almost a year ago. It was raining on the way home and a rainbow arched across the sky near my house and I saw it as a symbol that Flirt had crossed over rainbow bridge and was now with Slinky, playing and having a grand time, and an idea for a series was born. The thing I adore about doxies is their big soulful eyes and adorable shape, and playful spirit, and that's what I tried to capture. And I did want them to be made out of rainbows and light. Slinky and Flirt are a part of that happy group. As you said, a very different style of art for me, and though it has a simple, childlike look, it was quite complex to create. Even though the response to these rainbow doxies was very underwhelming, which was a bit of a disappointment, I am going to finish the series which has several more in progress. I want Slinky and Flirt to live on and continue to have adventures, through this art and in my heart.
