My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Oh, my! So far away yet so much smoke close in. Start in the mountains - and then where do they go? Feels rather unsettling. I don't feel like saying nice photo, but have to. Keep up the good work, and keep safe! I keep thinking about those fires in Portugal where 68 people got burned alive in their cars trying to escape. Yikes! :-)

We've got an air quality alert here in southern Oregon too, but with temperatures at 100+ for the last couple of weeks, we're not spending much time outdoors anyway...

Its a rare shot a great capture Tara!!

I read a news article recently that mentioned dust from the Gobi Desert was being deposited on the West Coast so smoke from a fire hundreds of miles away is no surprise. I never thought I'd see in my lifetime higher temperatures in Oregon and Washington than Southern California but that seems to be our future.

the skies around the Portland/Vancouver metro area (includes Camas & Washougal) are thick with the smoke not only from British Columbia but Eastern Oregon fires
Great capture

Oh dear, what a sight ! I can hardly breath if the temperatures get to 75F and the air is still . The devil-fuel diesel sends it's fumes into my front garden and so I stay at the back.

Wow! This looks like most of Tennessee did last year. There were months on end that everyday was smoke filled. We have so much damage that it will take many years to recover. And we lost 14 people.
Sadly, the arson fire that killed most of the people was started by two boys. A 15 and 17year old. The court decided that they will go unpunished. The judge said the boys, while they were lighting and tossing matches in the worst drought in history, could not have known that the wind would pick up and start the fire storm.

so sorry of hearing about fires in this country. Unfortunately, we also had wildfires in France too ! Perfect capture !

Sounds like not much fun - a heat wave and smoke pollution from the fires.. Glad you're not in danger, Tara! Seems like you, Bill, and Mike are having our August weather, and we're having yours here. Cool and wet today....
Cool photo of the smoke, Tara!

Great shot and documentation Tara, but never say 'never'. After all it seems to be a fact that we are experiencing Global Warming and who knows, your area may become a desert lol!

Good old UK - we are cold and wet with no prospect of this kind of situation whilst southern Europe is suffering from the same sort of problem as British Columbia !! I don't blame you for staying inside Tara.

Good capture.

We had a lot of forest fires recently in South of France and Corse. Thank you for the documentation.

A great reminder of the day we saw the sun looking like a blood orange...a sight I shan't soon forget. Like the layers displayed here as well as the light...

I know you had fires north of where you were, and also very hot temps. I saw pics of the skies some days: It was wise to stay inside. (Also, you mentioned lots of visitors in your last email, and you made a point of how busy you were, so I let you be, I didn't call, etc.) The pick captures the hazy feel of the smoke, and makes a soft poem of the landscape. It's beautiful, even if it's pollution. I assume you're cooling off by now...
