Description
The Rhode Island Red is an American breed of domestic chicken. It was developed in the late nineteenth century in Massachusetts and Rhode Island by cross-breeding birds of Oriental origin such as the Malay with brown Leghorn birds from Italy.
These birds are totally free range. They have a huge paddock to roam in on their farm, and even have a Maremma as a bodyguard against foxes!

So you have the "reds" down under, too! Do you have the farm, or was this a visit? Back in 1970 I had a friend whose family had a chicken farm with - 10,000 of them! At a certain age after hatching they were sent to another place for "fattening up" prior to going to "chicken heaven". It was interesting to get an insight into chicken farming. Keep up the good work. :-)

Why is the song line, "We are family. I got all my sisters with me," running through my head. Great pic.
