I'm once again leaving rr for a while; but before I leave, I come back to leave my thoughts and feelings about your altogether exceptional gallery.
This is one of your rushing-strokes flower paintings, both in the petals and in the background; and it's monumental. Your hues are darker than usual (on the average for your floral paintings, that is), and your background, ditto. You got real saturation and luminescence in those darker hues; and captured the depths and power of poppies as only a handful of artists ever have. (Again, I think of Georgia O'Keeffe; but she doesn't use your passionate rushing strokes.) The pinks in the petals make the blues glow. The stamens have luminous pinks and even oranges---very bold! You just took these bold saturated hues and rushed them onto your 'canvas', making those centers electric. And the stems are outlined and brushed with blues---on the left poppy, the stem glows on the edges, like it's got electrical current running through it. Life force...
That background is a confluence of big waves, energy, waters, just the cosmos---and what a rush of colors. Your brushwork can be felt like rushing waters; the colors are thick; they're viscous. And a real array of them too. With light at top (something you do a lot). The full size isn't huge, but the piece explodes and fills up the whole room. Terrific piece, Carol, another example of your cosmic vision into something as 'innocent' as a flower. (Again, O'Keeffe would feel right at home.) A very painterly rushing vision. Flower power to the nth degree.

Mark, thanks so much for your wonderful comment. I enjoy your interpretation of my art so much, and it not only gives me insight into what I have created, but also inspiration for new work. And inspiration is the life force for any artist. Flowers really are a universe unto themselves to me. Since childhood, I have found them fascinating. As a kid I'd spend many hours playing outdoors, especially in the front and back gardens of my home. I think I spent more time playing with flowers than my friends. And now, as a very mature adult, I am once again spending time playing with flowers. They do have their own life force and beauty that speaks to the artist in me, saying things to my heart and soul. They heal me and make me happy. I really enjoyed these blue poppies, perhaps because blue poppies are so rare and impossible for me to grow in the mountains. And so I grow them in my art, in wild colors that excite me, in a universe of, as you said, rushing strokes that really are propelled by passion, a passion to make them bloom in the art as they do in my imagination. It is amazing to me that something as simple and 'innocent' as a flower can bring me, and others, such a rush of pleasure and joy. And when I paint them, I can, for a moment, be a part of their cosmic world.
