Description

Captured back on 8/3/2011 at the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California. Not only is the Aquarium home to fish and other sea life, but also features a few species of our fine feathered friends. Lories and lorikeets (tribe Loriini) are small to medium-sized arboreal parrots characterized by their specialized brush-tipped tongues for feeding on nectar of various blossoms and soft fruits, preferably berries. The species form a monophyletic group within the parrot family Psittacidae. Traditionally, they were considered a separate subfamily (Loriinae) from the other subfamily (Psittacinae) based on the specialized characteristics, but recent molecular and morphological studies show that the group is positioned in the middle of various other groups. They are widely distributed throughout the Australasian region, including south-eastern Asia, Polynesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Australia, and the majority have very brightly coloured plumage. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia. I had posted several other pics of these precocious birds, but since Renderosity blatantly screwed up my numbering system with their massive renovation, I had to resort to starting at number one again.

(I saw your comment to Helle on her shelves too, and I laughed too. Yeah, you were right about the materials---she can store some pretty heavy stuff on those!)

This is a blasting standout shot of these amazing birds. You've brought out the hues and made it almost a shining graphic print. Love it, and love your background too---the whole piece is jumping out at us, and it suits those vibrant birds perfectly. Love this shot.
