Description
Advertising has the fundamental purpose of making us believe we need what's not useful, it would be better to learn to protect us from unnecessary purchases.

I almost never look at advertises, as far as I can avoid them. We have tons of them on tv and I either walk away or look somewhere else. I hate them. Some of them are so CRAZY and we see and hear the same and the same over and over again and it makes me sick. Then they use a certain sound or looped melody or whistle, as if we knew which sound is for what advertising. So I try to avoid them. We often Save a movie, so we can run it fast where the advertises are and keep on watching the movie. Soon there are more advertises than movie. I wanna puke. You really made a point here. Well done.

I suppose if we lived in the Middle Ages, the Princes and Princesses would be telling us what to do, and how to live. And the Kings and Queens would take our money. And the Church would threaten us with 'damnation' if we didn't follow its many edicts. I suppose there isn't an age in history where we haven't been bombarded with demands, and tempted with salvation, etc. But advertising is only about soaps, teas, soft drinks, sweets, perfumes, etc. As a consequence, advertising seems so much less 'invasive' than the old Princes and Church edicts, etc.
But it really isn't...Commerce turns so many of us into "consumers," where we use up so much of our planet to make and buy many things that give so little. And commerce builds whole towers to itself, which I suppose we worship in much the same way that the medieval servant worshiped the King or Queen. Commerce has taken over for the Kings, Queens and Church. It just feeds itself and feeds itself---the big 'commerce machine'. And advertising is commerce's Papal edicts and Magna Carta's...
I love your image. You chose such interesting objects. And you have them raining down on this woman, who has only an umbrella to protect her. And, she is naked in the eyes of the advertisers---I think advertisers wish that all consumers came right out of the Garden of Eden, ready to accept anything! When I worked for advertisers (as an artist), that's how it felt. I'm not pure at all...advertising was one of the only ways to make a living, for several years in my life; and the "saving grace" was that I could create the best art I could create, while working for those crazy and money-hungry advertising agencies.
And you have that 'tile' pattern again---I love how you use that: It's like we all pass through 'bath houses', places we can be cleansed---or places we can lose our identity, depending on how we treat them. They're halfway-houses, or huge train-stations-of-the-soul: Your characters meet there, and have revelations there, and see the pain and absurdity of their lives there, and hopefully find light and grace there. Often you will transfer the tile patterns onto your characters; so that your characters are 'tiled' too. It's very effective, Giuliano. And very powerful.
Here, the woman is tiled: She's absorbed the patterns of her surroundings. And her umbrella has become tiled too...
And, against all those grays and muted flesh-tones, you have the very colorful objects falling on the woman. (Including an iPad and a wrapped gift, etc.) I love how the two objects on the bottom-right are actually sunken into the tiles. And the 'floor' isn't so much a floor, but a continuation of the wall---as if this woman is sitting in pure air. And you used beautiful deep green-blue for the umbrella: Maybe it's a beautiful hue because it's the only thing protecting her from this rainfall...
This is another of your consummate visions; and you've articulated it consummately. It's always amazing to see how you "visualize" what you feel: You're so superb at this. Another terrific image from you, Giuliano...and thank you so much for your comments in my gallery: I appreciate your insights, and your observations. I'm not the artist that you are, but you find very positive things inside my work, and I'm very grateful. Grazie...
