Description

Captured back on 8/3/2011, at the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California. Clutching the narrow space between the wall partitions with its powerful claws, this adventurous birdie defies gravity by hanging and changing positions above the ground. Not only is the Aquarium home to fish and other sea life, but also features a few species of our fine feathered friends. Lories and lorikeets (tribe Loriini) are small to medium-sized arboreal parrots characterized by their specialized brush-tipped tongues for feeding on nectar of various blossoms and soft fruits, preferably berries. The species form a monophyletic group within the parrot family Psittacidae. Traditionally, they were considered a separate subfamily (Loriinae) from the other subfamily (Psittacinae) based on the specialized characteristics, but recent molecular and morphological studies show that the group is positioned in the middle of various other groups. They are widely distributed throughout the Australasian region, including south-eastern Asia, Polynesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Australia, and the majority have very brightly coloured plumage. Stunning photos of this Lorikeet. The head alone is amazing to admire. What beauty you have captured. Nice postwork. Photos 2 & 3 are my favorites.

The contrasts of the bird with that bright blue-green partition is just delicious. I love the hues in this. And you caught the 'keet in various positions that only birds can get into. Your composition on the last two is balanced by leaving the long tail in the longest portion of your shot, concentrating its head in the thinner portion. A wonderful foursome capture, and more of this beautiful creature (which, no, I wouldn't have expected to see in a sea world/aquarium!)

(Harry, I'm only doing one image per gallery tonight, so I will have to stop here. But I'll be back for more...again, I hope you're doing better after your hospitalization. There are wishes for you in my gallery, from several people, when you're able to come around for it...take care)

WOW! I just love all 4 photos of this wonderful little parrot. I cannot get over how this bird is colored. It is amazing. Reminds me of the tropical fish we sometimes see in the Corel reefs. 5*

Harry, I just heard you have been in hospital. I am so sorry it was necessary and I sincerely hope, that it has helped easing up your bad health, you have had for so many months. I hope they could solve some of all your problems.
