Excellent shot (and quite pretty, considering what it is--I like the colors). This poor gear--between the rust and the moss (or lichen?), it didn't have a chance!

By the look of this well worn cog I assumed it was retired. Looking at your second image it appears these rusty old relics of a bygone industrial age are still in use.

Typical of the past century or so, everything is very solid. If this were build today it would probably be made out of plastic or some alloy!
