Description

Hi there, RAF Scampton Airshow. This is one of four classic Saab Jets flown over from Sweden by the military Classic Collection (called Saab Silver Wings). Note : they keep classic jets flying while the RAF does not. I speak of Harrier, Lightning etc here. Anyway, all there aircraft are fully airworthy and one is contracted back by the air arm for use. I'll show you them all all son. The show hoped for them to fly this year but they could only visit, plans are underway for next year.. I HOPE! LOOK at that jet pipe! It'd lovely or is it just me? Looking at the jet pipe and trying to consider if it has some sort of translating body for afterburner nozzle expansion as it definitely does not have convergent divergent. Thanks for the focus!

Gotta love a fine old jet still flying. Yes, Rob, on more classic Swedish jets.

By the look of that tail it would take a lot of fuel for that to fly

Oh, what's this funny looking thing with a blue nose! Man, this is the most unusual photo I've seen of a dragon/Draken plane! And a real fuel guzzler at that! And, as you say, some are still in use today (ie reconnaissance and photo work). I have on rare occasion seen one or 2 flying, but that was a long time ago, before closing of bases and other such pacifistic nonsense. It's always easier to tear down than build up, and with the speed of today's warfare there's no time for rearming (there scarcely was in 1940!). This one's a 2 seater - wonder if it's for training or reconnaissance? Keep up the good work! :-)
