Another goody! Nicely balanced scene. Are you sure she's just lonely and not done in with too much of the sauce?

The lonely, reflective, sad clown is a figure throughout literature and folklore, and this is a beautiful example of it. The black and white of her 'harlequin' outfit is echoed throughout the piece: It's everywhere---in the cat, her beautiful umbrella, her black hair (in contrast with her white facial clown's makeup), the balloons, the trees with the light against them (and you included flare-like planets or ghosts), and the shimmering checkerboard floor, etc. You really have a way with combining images, Barb: I didn't know this about you until the last year or so (I hadn't gone back far enough, to see this side of your art, if its' back there). This is a shimmering piece. And it's doused in melancholy, but with a sense that magic is right around the corner, which she'll find as soon as she arises from her doldrums. The horse's mane---with unicorn-horn and flowers---is like a gift that's come to her to lift her out of her darkness...with roses in the background. Beautiful and enchanting. You're wholly at home with these types of images.
(And btw, your piece for Ute---an underground sea cave---was another beauty, with the feeling of a room under the sea, where the water didn't blur the clarity of the door or the sea goddess, etc. The female actually looked like a character Ute would use in her work. It was very fitting for her.)
