Description

The Soviet moveable SA-2 “Guideline”, and the US air launched “Sparrow” missiles shadow boxed until the “Shrike” was developed from the “Sparrow.” Military doctrine demanded that this duel when it occurred enhance but not detract from the focus of ballistic weapons, the guns and bombs that had dismissed swords, shields, and armor. When jet aircraft finally met with rocket forces both were not yet accurately enough positioned at the speeds achieved to allow the certainty ascribed to them. The safe and arm interlocks developed to prevent inadvertent and imprecise detonation further set minimum engagement ranges. After decades of peace in Europe and the Pacific, to have a fight, logistics had to move the adversary champions to the point of engagement. This logistics was sometimes ascribed to a warrior as in the long-range bomber and aircraft carrier and sometimes it was a separate and non-exclusive committed asset as the air tanker and the air lift transport. Coming out of this I was following the Strike fighter. What was hidden until 2001 was a submarine armed with a Submarine Launched Cruise Missile. While an attack might involve several missile carriers or involve salvos over a period of some time from a single carrier, they are semi-autonomous preferring to remain hidden and not emitting. My experience with the attack pattern was an attack followed by maybe one the next day and maybe a grouped attack in two to three days. Then maybe nothing for a week. Then an attack in the morning and one in the evening. An attack in the afternoon the following day. After about 11 years a coordinated attack by four in pairs from opposing directions that results in a strike on the target by a single member of one pair turning sharply to the left after one of the opposite pair passes and its mate passes at high speed from behind it. This last behavior is more like helicopter gunships than a submarine launched cruise missile.

Very cool shot, here.

Perhaps this stealth could be used to discourage a certain fat idiot from flinging his rockets all over the Pacific..

I recommend listening to "Eve of Destruction" and ignoring the fake news about the death of Barry McGuire.
