This 25-foot high bronze statue, weighing 15,000 pounds, is representing the famous moment at the end of World War II when a sailor kissed an unknown woman in Times Square, New York, NY while celebrating V-J Day on 14 August 1945. At the time I took this picture the statue was on display at the Port of San Diego, next to the USS Midway Museum. In the distance is Point Loma and the Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters are taking off from the North Island NAS. This picture was taken on 12 February 2010, Sig...

Interestingly, the only identifiable person associated with the original Times Square picture is Alfred Eisenstaedt, the photographer. At least five women and eight men have claimed to be the subjects. It is generally agreed that the woman was a nurse, explaining her white attire.
