Description

Here's the inspiration for this render. Every time I walked through Chinatown, I passed by gift stores that sold grey market goods. These often included knockoffs of popular action figures, recast in often garish plastic color schemes. Spiderman was probably the most common of these, partly due to his popularity but possibly also due to the fact that his mask completely covers his face (which makes it easier to hastily repaint the figure). So now you know the true inspiration. I don't remember which custom texture I used for the suit, but it is indeed Ice-Boy's old freebie Spidersuit for M4. My continued use of M4 in this era of G8 probably makes me as anachronistic as steampunk. But I've always been a maverick so I don't care. The set is by The AntFarm and is called the Science Fiction Black Market Alley (or something simlar) over at Daz. Spiderman is a Marvel Comics character, which means he is now property of Walt Disney Studios for the foreseeable future. No infringement is intended as this is fan art. Post-processing in Lo-Fi and GIMP. Enjoy!

That's quite a background story, Dan! I have got a few firuines, but no superheroes. I love(d) to collect the original Quake II characters, and quite some out of the Spawn universe (ok, does Spawn count as a superhero?). It can be quite inspiring to have them stare at me from their place when I'm working on new images :)

Wild render, Spidey seems to lack the webs cause he's just a copy, aye? ;)

I forget which texture I used on this particular Spiderman. I think (but am not sure) that it is the Alex Ross Concept Art version, which downplayed the black webbing outlines over the red sections of the costume. I did this render a few months ago and so much has happened in between that I lost track.

I like the look of the webbing under the arms, because that's how Steve Ditko originally drew the character. I do remember that the webbing under the arms comes and goes based on who's drawing Spidey but to be honest I have not read the comic books for over 20 years so I am not an expert. :) I don't remember seeing the webbing in the movie costumes.
