Description

Flamingos or flamingoes are a type of wading bird in the family Phoenicopteridae, the only bird family in the order Phoenicopteriformes. There are four flamingo species in the Americas and two species in the Old World.

Flamingos are beautiful birds, but, in the USA, some people put plastic versions on their lawns and in their gardens for decoration, so much so that over the years many people started referring to the decorations as "slop art." A few years back, my wife was in Hawaii at a convention, and I was talking with her on the phone while she was taking a walk on the grounds of the resort where she was staying. Suddenly, she says to me, "I can't believe this resort has slop art on its lawn!" A few moments later, she got closer to the "slop art" and nearly dropped her phone from being startled when the very real flamingos suddenly flew away. (We no longer refer to ANY flamingos--real or fake--as slop art.

Les flamants sont des oiseaux très élégants dont la morphologie permet des représentations stylisées aux courbes harmonieuses, et pourtant je ne crois pas qu'ils aient été abondamment représentés dans l'Art (bas-reliefs, objets décorés,etc.) Peut-être parce qu'il n'y avait pas une symbolique propre au flamant...Très belle capture !
