Description
I have never been one to believe in the old tales of Friday the 13th. However this year I learned how some of these tales can get started. I was working at a fund raiser for our domestic violence center that I am a board member of. I managed to trip and fall on my right shoulder. After three hours in the emergency room with a temporary cast and pain medicine I finally got to go home .
So what you are seeing is a fairly bad fracture of the humeral head and the end of my collarbone.
And I learned a very painful lesson. At 60 I no longer bounce. I should find out next week if this is going to require pins and surgery or just eight weeks of total immobilization. And that my friends is how Friday the 13th has gotten such a bad name.

Sorry to hear of your mishap. I know what you are going through because the same damned thing happened to me--same shoulder too. Not only did I break the ball of the humerus, I also ended up with a torn rotator cuff. Six weeks of immobility and then several months of physical therapy. Didn't have full use of my arm for about seven months. Of course, the doctors wanted to repair the rotator, but I decided to leave well enough alone. Anyway, I hope your experience is better than mine and that your healing, etc. goes quickly and really well.

OUCH! Why do such things happen to good people? Maybe to make them slow down and think a bit about themselves for a change. But it's so sad and so tough. Christmas 2004 I was on my way to the health care center at 8:00 (very dark outside) when I slipped on a fleck of glass ice and dislocated, you guessed it - right shoulder! Worst was, I had to pick up my brother at Copenhagen airport and couldn't use the arm. We got to my place OK, but making food and dressing/undressing was a real hassle. I worried if my brachial plexus was permanently damaged. Full recovery took over a month! So, I sincerely comisserate with you. And what about your little protegés? Not a nice x-ray - a bit unclear and off center, hard to tell exactly what's being seen. As far as possible, keep us informed how you're progressing. Am thinking of you in my prayers! :-)
