Description

For Project Earthbound. Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, the old saying goes. The Athlani Empire learned the truth of that the hard way. It's not just a matter of pointing your ship at a star and hitting the thrusters. Anything, even a micro particle of space rock that hits at hyperspeeds can be disastrous. Some of the ganglionic modules are dedicated to sensing, others to repelling debris. Still others are tuned to make the navigational adjustments within the 1 to a negative 56th second span of time between detection and catastrophe. More units make millions of calculations per second to adjust the energy flow of the transfold field generators necessary to move a 300,000-ton spaceship to one side without breaking it in half. All of this just to enable the Jump Mind to do what it was designed to do: fold space itself, up to 30 parsecs at a time.
