Description

As some of might remember or at least read, North West Oregon, specifically, the Eagle Creek area of the Columbia gorge had a massive fire, started by a teen who thought it was funny to set off fireworks in the forest. For many days we, on the western side of the fire were inundated with massive amounts of smoke and ash. this picture was taken on September 9th at about 5 pm. there has been absolutely no retouching of the photo

Oh my, this must have been awful for everybody who live there, especially for people with lung problems. It's a good photo, Mike, with all the lines.

This looks like Tennessee last year. Sadly our fires were started by older teenagers that is was from n to flick lighted matches in the woods during the worst drought we’ve had in 30 years. They were let off. 14 people died.

Some people are completely unaware of the consequences of their actions and it can be so dramatic! Excellent capture, Mike!

Now that is eerie. People who cause forest fires due to their own stupidity/carelessness should serve 5-years prison time and be forced to fight forest fires while serving time. Those who intentionally set forest fires should be sentenced to at least 15 years prison time and also be forced to help fight forest fires. Those who cause these tragedies are the scum of the earth.

Amazing capture, Mike - it really gives a fee for the amount of smoke in the air.

I have to agree with goldie - the buttmunchers that start these fires need to be on the front lines with a shovel facing the danger those firefighters face every day.

Awesome capture. Fire scares the bejeebers out of me. We live in a rural area, and fire means there probably won't be help in time.

The beauty of the scene was not worth the loss. A number of years ago I met a friend for lunch at the beach near my home. Afterwards we took a walk. After fifteen minutes my lungs began to hurt from a fire burning in the mountains forty miles away. I remember how beautiful the Columbia River Gorge was. And now I wonder how much is left.
