Description

A little over a year ago, I was sitting at a bar on the Helio5 Space Dock Complex when I heard this deep, sonorous voice come from behind, "excuse me, Miss."  "Oh great," I thought to myself, "another drunken spacerat trying to hit on me."  Turning around, I found myself face-to-face with quite an imposing man... he had to be around two meters tall, quite muscular and not too bad looking for a guy that I figured to be about fifty, give or take a couple of years.  Got to admit, I was a little awed by him, definitely an upgrade from what I had been putting up with since I took a seat in this dive... even if he was old enough to be my father.

"Understand you're looking for a crew chief," he said, "I'd like to apply for the job."  I told him he was right and offered to buy him a drink while we discussed to position.  As he sat on the stool next to me, he replied, "I don't drink alcohol, ma'am, but I will have a cup of coffee.  Booze blurs the mind and on a ship, that's the last thing you need."

As we talked, his melodious voice was almost hypnotic.  Come to find out his name was Moses Booker, though he preferred to be called by his middle name, Tyrell.  Tyrell informed me of his past experience in the Fleet as a Master Chief Petty Officer now retired, but as he said, "I'm getting too old for the military and I'm too young for a retirement home."  Truthfully, I was a bit nervous after discovering he was former Fleet and he seemed to sense this. Leaning forward a bit, Tyrell looked me in the eye and whispered, "Miss Calis, I know who you are and all about the bounty on your head.  Trust me, if I had had that in mind, I'd have already dragged your pretty little butt out of here and dropped you off at the Feds down the next corridor. So, whether I get the job or not, you're safe from me."

Sticking my hand out to him, as Tyrell took it in his with a strong, but gentle grasp, I replied...

"Welcome aboard, Chief."

An old SpecOps chief on the crew, huh? Something tells me he'll come in handy during tight situations.

Great narrative and image.
