I have heard this before the way it is worded on the plaque, but for my opinion in no way was slavery ever a "right cause or principle"
located in the national Cemetery in Springfield , Missouri

Can't agree more. Slavery in any form is utterly reprehensible and deserving of nothing but condemnation.
I agree otherwise, though, that 'those who die for a right principle do not die in vain'. Except that many, alas, would rather live under the oppression of wrong principles than risk their lives challenging them. Which is only human, I guess... :/
