Description

Sketched this during the early 1990's. Think I was partly inspired by the final movement from Brahms' 2nd Symphony. It can be readily seen that my grasp of the proportions of the human figure were still not very good at that time. :)

inspite your own doubts about some proportions, this is a great drawing. I can understand that it was inspired by Brahms 2 - 4th. That movement is musically a bit odd. It has got a mystical 1st theme, a gently floating 2nd theme and in between the stormy and wild side theme that almost prevails the whole movement, Interesting is that theme 2 only sounds twice (in the exposition and during the main part). And there is a second side theme that first sounds in the main part and is taken up once again in the coda. What I like in this symphony is a motive in the main part where all the power and whirl is set apart for a very meditative passage, not very long, in which Brahms uses Wagner's motive of the Grale's Bells from Prasifal. I think your drawing makes all this become a feeling.

If this drawing has really made you feel the spirit of Brahms' 2nd Symphony, then I am happy for you. Enjoy! :)
