Description

From July to November 1917 Princess Louise's Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders took part in the 3rd Battle of Ypres, otherwise known as Passchendaele. By the end of this battle there were 217,000 German casualties, and an estimated 400,000 to 800,000 Commonwealth casualties. On Wednesday 22nd August 1917, Private James Sharp Kay of the Argylls lost his life at Passchendaele. He was the eldest child of James Kay, a prominent man in the area. James junior was just 19 years old, and the beloved brother of my grandmother. We will remember. It has taken me two months to create this image, the quality is poor, but the pride I have in my great uncle James, and my other great uncles who lost their lives so young in this conflict, is undiminished. A rough video can be viewed here https://www.youtube.com/video_copynotice?v=GpuiKUyBL1Q. Soundtrack is Flowers of the forrest, performed by Duncan Pittock
