Description
Another cliff dwelling in Mesa Verde National Park. Balcony House is not as large as Cliff Palace, but was exciting to visit.
From the Mesa Verde website:
"The one-hour Balcony House tour is one of the most intimate yet adventurous tours at Mesa Verde. A visit to Balcony House will challenge your fear of ladders, heights, and small spaces, and will give you the opportunity to explore the common areas of a mid-sized, 40-room dwelling.
The Balcony House tour requires visitors to descend a 100 foot staircase into the canyon; climb a 32 foot ladder; crawl through a 12 foot, 18 inches wide tunnel; and clamber up an additional 60 feet on ladders and stone steps."
I'll be spending the next few days with my son & his family, so no posts for a short while. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

Good photo. They seem to have had a good view of the surrounding area. The name seems to me a bit odd - Balcony House. Due to the great view, maybe? Have a great time! :-)

What an amazing place to visit and explore but I would have to take the seniors tour as this one would be too hard for me. 😀

Yup, now I remember why we didn't visit Balcony House! LOL! That's a bit much for me at 7500 feet. We picked one hike and took it slow. It was worth the trouble!

A very rich 'abstract' of beautiful forms, cutoff forms, great rock-textures and brick textures, and a feeling of powerful forms who meet a sudden end---the way the bricks are cut off, the way the stone ceiling feels like a rough hewn half-finished dome, and the general open-end of the whole shot. Form-wise, it's a wonderful composition. And to 'end' the piece with a deep chasm---the bottom of the shot---makes it feel as if this emerges out of miles of dark earth. (Well they do, in a way...) Really fine composition and texture and hue. And re those stairs: I don't know how members of these communities handled their elderly: Those climbs can't be easy, no matter how they traversed it long ago...
