Description
The Bagdad Theater in Portland, Oregon. From a time when the Middle East was considered an exotic & romantic place...
From Wikipedia:
"Universal Pictures spent $100,000 for the Bagdad, which opened in 1927. Thomas and Mercier, a Portland architectural firm, designed the Bagdad, which was built by Christman and Otis Development Company. The theatre's exotic exterior and its huge neon-lit marquee competed with other movie houses, drive-in restaurants, and billboards of the 1920s in attracting customers' attention. Moorish, Egyptian, and Mayan motifs appeared here and there on movie houses across the city.
The theatre's interior included a large stage, a fountain, and Middle-Eastern decor, and its female ushers wore uniforms meant to appear Arabian. Early shows featured silent films, talkies, a theatre orchestra, live stage shows, and vaudeville. Noted performers in the past included Sammy Davis Jr., and the Will Mastin Trio."

(to give you an idea of how much time it takes me to write my comments, I just did 5 comments in 40 minutes. It's why I can never comment on everything.) From the Wikipedia entry, this is obviously one of those palace-theaters which were so beloved back in the day. I've been in them, and knew---years back---some of the performers who worked in them. (Dancers, musicians, etc.) Your pic is of the exterior, of course, but your way with the bright lights and dark shadows really brings home the visual bombardment of these facades---at night---and you've given us deep reds, greens and other hues, which bring out the unreal feel of these facades. (A purposeful unreal, as the world of theater is a reality all its own.) Drawing out saturated hues, with striking separation between hues, and deep hue-shadows is one of your trademarks. Love the shot, it's got just what these places wanted us to feel...
