Description
My apologies for those who don't like to read long descriptions. You can feel free to skip this. Sometimes I don't like reading long descriptions either.
I was raised to believe that certain topics (religion, politics, etc.) were to be avoided in polite conversation with anyone outside my inner circle, but that everything else was fair game for discussion. Yet discussion itself is a risky business nowadays, and civil disagreement seems to be about as plentiful as white tigers in the wilderness. Closed-mindedness is all too common.
I'm not referring to the type of outrage that is necessary as a catalyst for societal and political change. I am not referring to the heated emotions one feels when one is trying to preserve one's way of life. I am talking about the reserves of anger that so many carry around inside, ready to unleash fury upon anyone who disagrees with even the most minor details of their worldview. I am talking about barely disguised antipathy (if not hostility) that goes hand-in-glove with certitude. If everything is outrageous, then nothing is outrageous and we become jaded to all causes except our own. We run the risk of arbitrary self-righteousness. We do not give the benefit of the doubt.
With that in mind, the image I created is perhaps set within a better context.

I blame CNN. They are the ones who gave us the twenty four hour news cycle, with the new kids at MSNBC and Fox jumping on the bandwagon. And anyone and everyone with a political agenda were more than happy to use them.

Think the anger you refer to is a reaction to anxiety, ie people are stressed and anything that increases that like someone expressing a conflicting view however trivial will cause an angry response

Brave commentary and great work! Bertrand Russell once said that the trouble with the world is that the ignorant are cocksure and that the intelligent are full of doubt. I always appreciated that line and it may apply to your discussion. Bravo on your scene and narrative!! :)
