Description

The biggest monument at Gettysburg; the tip of the sword is 110' above the ground. The observation deck gives quite a view as we've seen/will see. Zoom and look around, there's a lot of detail in the image. The dark oblongs are bronze plaques and we'll see parts of some of them shortly as well as some of the carvings on the monument fabric. I've read that many Civil War monuments were erected by subscription from survivors of the units they represent, but I'm guessing this is a state-sponsored work. It's just so big compared to most. Enjoy; thanks for viewing. No PW.
