Description
“It’s a sad state when elves aren’t safe in our own forest,” Toran tried to sooth the still clearly shaken young wood elf-maid, his eyes admiringly roaming over her lovely features, and naked breasts, as she rose to her knees before him. “But such are the times we live in. You shouldn’t be wandering the woodlands alone.”
“I needed to gather some rare herbs and mistletoe,” she replied meekly, silently scolding herself for having ventured so far away from home while she reflexively touched the oak leaf pendent that hung at her throat, the holy symbol of the oak father, Silvanus. Still shaken, and unsure that the danger had really passed, she noticed a fluttering movement from the fringe of the clearing; her eyes growing large with surprise as she recognized the form of a tiny dragon that swooped in to land on her savior’s shoulder. Having lived her whole life in the forest without ever even catching sight of a pseudodragon, she had heard that the reclusive creatures occasionally accompanied people of good nature, setting her mind to rest, and sighed with sincere gratitude; “Thank you for saving my life.”
“It was my pleasure,” he replied, adding with feigned formality and a mock bow; “Toran Dundragon, sorcerer of Essembra, and my companion Styx... at your service milady.”
“I’m hardly a lady,” she retorted playfully, bowing her head in mock civility as she introduced herself. “Yrlissa Moonglamaer, druidess of Silvanus.” Then she noticed her nudity, which had slipped her mind in all the excitement, motioning to her discarded vest as she added; “Perhaps I should put that back on.”
“If you must,” he smirked with a resigned sigh, his eyes openly lingering on her delightful ripe breasts as a sly smile turned his lips. But he rose to his feet, and turned away to give her some, obviously overly belated, privacy as she redressed. No stranger to the charms of a beautiful woman, he ranked hers respectfully high on the list of the finest he had ever seen.
“What about them?” Yrlissa asked, as she rose to stand beside him and surveyed the carnage of her would be captors. Feeling a ting of sorrow for the loss of life, despite the horrors they would have inflicted upon her, and the evil they had likely already wrought against other denizens of the forest.
“We’ll burn them. It’s better than they deserve,” Toran replied with a heavy sigh, setting about the grim task of dragging the charred corpses into a pile, then set them ablaze; armor, weapons and all. He had, however, taken the time to search their bodies and found both a purse heavy with gold coins and a small note book in which they had scribbled notes regarding two merchants bond for Harrowdale that they had stopped near the junction of the Moonsea Ride and Halfaxe Trail and extorted “taxes” from.
They waited solemnly, contemplating what could have happened if things had gone differently, until the pyre burned down to the point that there was no chance it would spread to surrounding forest, then Toran turned to Yrlissa and told her; “We’ll see that you get back to your people safely.”
“Thank you,” she cooed with true gratitude, relieved to have both his protection and company, leading the way into the virgin forest toward her clan’s encampment, eager to get as far from stench of the pyre as they could, but knowing that they had no hope of getting there until long after nightfall. However, wandering through the woodlands after dark, even with their elven enhanced vision, was a decidedly unsafe prospect.

Very good story! But wouldn't a druid want to leave the bodies out to feed nature? It would be the only useful thing the dead men have ever done in their lives.
zaqxsw
Thank you for your kind comment... good point! I didn't think of that... but then the Red Plumes are so toxic to the woodlands they'd probably poison anything that fed on them.
