Description

From the time this snail was a wee little thing, it has been slowly making its shell larger and larger. That tiny snail is still there ... all you have to do is look. I don't know what the life span of a garden snail is, but this picture was taken about five years ago, so it may have gone to its demise by now. I probably dumped it in the yard waste bin with the forsythia trimmings, so who knows where it might have gone from there?

A metaphor for life. All that patience and hard work and in the end you wind up in the dumpster. Feeling a little dark today. Still, a fine image.

A small life, we don't see it and step on it, terminating it. When I was little my eyes were so close to the ground I could see all the life, I respected it and tried never to step on small life, recognizing they have a function in nature, too. Keep up the good work! :-)

From Wikipedia: "Most species of land snail are annual, others are known to live 2 or 3 years, but some of the larger species may live over 10 years in the wild...." He's probably gone to that big garden in the sky by now.... Or onto someone's plate like Mike said. But not mine.... Gah....

A wonderful macro of the little creature, Tara.

Very nice - you captured the spiral pattern of the shell perfectly. I don't have it often, but I do enjoy my escargot in garlic butter occasionally...

It is a hard life for some. Your snail looks much more colorful than the ones I find in my garden. I'm afraid I don't eat mine as they are a bit slimy for my taste. 😃
