Description

Well, it looks like it will be smooth sailing next time i have to do any HTML coding! I now have (thanks to a good buddy of mine.. Thanks! You know who you are! LOL) my very own programming assistant, available 24/7 - and I don't even have to pay him! From Wikipedia: In software engineering, rubber duck debugging or rubber ducking is a method of debugging code. The name is a reference to a story in the book The Pragmatic Programmer in which a programmer would carry around a rubber duck and debug their code by forcing themselves to explain it, line-by-line, to the duck. Many other terms exist for this technique, often involving different inanimate objects. Many programmers have had the experience of explaining a programming problem to someone else, possibly even to someone who knows nothing about programming, and then hitting upon the solution in the process of explaining the problem. In describing what the code is supposed to do and observing what it actually does, any incongruity between these two becomes apparent. More generally, teaching a subject forces its evaluation from different perspectives and can provide a deeper understanding. By using an inanimate object, the programmer can try to accomplish this without having to interrupt anyone else. Perhaps we should ship a carton or two of these to Rendo's programmers in light of all the hiccups lately... I got such a kick out of this, I had to post it! :-D

Writing code looks far too difficult even with a rubber duck. I will leave it to the experts though if I were younger I might have given it a go. Maybe!!!!!!!!! Renderosity may need a rubber duck .!!!!!! 😀

Hey Rod, that kind of flows into my former line of work here in Silicon Valley. As a graphic artist/technical illustrator I did most of my work with and for our writers. These writers had a common practice throughout the industry, basically a commandment, to write manuals at a sixth grade level. Simply put, explain things that even a duck could understand (QUACK!) Thanks for the laugh. 😁

Fantastic, Rod! Now I wish there were someone who could fix me up with YouTube - I keep getting a black screen with reference to HTML5, but NOT how to get the darned stuff to get Firefox to play YouTube videos! (Do we sense the approach of a frying pan somewhere?). Any idea where to find help? :-)

I definitely get the premise. I just talk out loud to myself. I knew that last comment was coming about Rendo's IT, 😆 Merry Christmas.

LOL! Love bucyjoe's typo. :P

I'm pretty sure this works, and it saves you from making someone's eyes glaze over by explaining everything to a live person! :)

I love bucyjoe's typo too, lol...I never knew the term 'rubber ducking', and that explains the little duck in your shot. I love it there regardless, as it gives a great accent to the piece. And you skewed the CDs and flash drives nicely too, a little digital still life. I looked at the screen---I've done some scripting, but I couldn't help but feel that I was playing with atomic stuff, and if I put in one too many brackets, underscores or parentheses, a small country in Asia would disappear. Too much power for my brain to handle... When we see this, we get a sense of how much detail you work with so often; and, needless to say, I'm impressed. (And I love your little jab at the problems with RR...frustrating to say the least!)

Rod, I know there's at least one more pic waiting for me to comment on, but as I've been here 45 minutes, I must move on for now, as there are a bunch of galleries I have yet to get to. (I'll be back for the latests in the next few days.) But I want to wish you and Jo, and all in your life, a wonderful Christmas, and hope the season has brought you peace and rest and inspiration, and same for the coming year (and years). And to thank you for all your wonderful caring and very funny responses to my work on RR. It's a great treat, and I'm more grateful than I can say.
