Description
It's late, or rather early. Last call was half an hour ago, but the bartender's kindly letting you wait for your ride inside, along with one other customer. You sent the cute, little teal-haired elf down the way a few drinks earlier in the hopes of striking up a conversation, but they'd been downed like water with barely a nod just like all the others that half a dozen other suitors had sent, lost among a forest of glasses.
Those golden eyes meet yours now and then, intense, captivating, inquisitive...then they flit away, bored, simultaneously daring you to speak and daring you to leave already. Despite your blurry vision, a movement outside catches your eyes: your ride is here. This is probably your last chance for the night, maybe forever, and you glance to the bartender as you waver, looking for moral support. The man sees your pleading eyes and gives you a subtle smile, a mild jerk of the head in the other elf's direction, silent encouragement to go for it.
You throw back the last gulp of your whiskey, telling yourself that the fire it ignites in your belly is confidence, passion, courage incarnate, then rise heroically (you think; maybe more of a stumble) to your feet, and stride (you think; probably more of a wobble) over to stand (sway, you're definitely swaying) before the lithe elf, attracting the attention of those warmly glowing gold eyes.
"You, uh...have a ride...No, um...Need a ride home?" you manage, leaning suavely (slumping) against the bar to stay upright. The bartender hides his smile behind a hand, but you don't notice.
The teal-haired elf smirks seductively at you. "Thought you'd never ask."
You feel like a conquering hero all the way back to your place, but as soon as the door is shut behind you both, everything goes dark.
You wake up in the morning to the sound of your alarm, but it's further away than you expected. You realize you're on the floor, wearing the clothes from the night before, and you have a splitting headache. Panicking, you run to your briefcase to find...your key card is gone, your thumb drive is missing, and someone took the last candy that you'd stashed away beside them.
Well, crap: it was a trap.
