Description

------------------ An assignment, months ago. (Best zoomed.) This might look like a hollywood premiere of some old drawings, but it's not: Someone asked me to do a "marquee" with these two brush drawings, and I did. It's a bit splashy, but it was fun making spotlights and such. (The bottom piece is a blend of the top two.) As some of you know, the top drawing is my avatar. These took days, but I actually liked doing them. All pencils, with rubbing and drawing, and more rubbing and drawing...I'm not sure they're exciting, but they gave me the chance to explore the nuts and bolts of drawings (I did them in the 80s) - the little reflections in metal and wood, the fleece-quality of the bristles, and just the 'presence' of the things, like they're making a 'statement'. It was about getting the "decisive moment"---a term usually reserved for photography: ie, the moment that makes a photograph a statement: its spine, its essence. While work-a-day, these were a turning point for me, because I finally felt I could do a drawing that was whole. I know I return to them from time to time, but I'm somehow called back to them. Like your first customer, or first client. This was done for a friend who encouraged me long ago, and likes to pop into my life and get me to do different things... --------- I comment by gallery, not date, so I get to each of you at different times. But it allows me to saturate myself in your work. Thanks so much for everything: You all make this place very special, and I'm very grateful for it. Have a fine night, Mark ------------------

The wands of wizards and artists have similar functions... and your efforts are lovely.

They are really quite good but their arrangement made me think of 'Invasion of the Brush People'. Lined up in ranks and ready for battle.

I think of you (always) as a curvy, fuzzy-headed art brush, having seen your avatar so many times. So seeing "you" superimposed with another brush is like seeing you in a fancy cape, or in drag, or with some wild movie-star collar standing up around your head. It's quite fetching! (Maybe I need to get out more.)

It looks so similar to your avatar! - I just like to see all brush, ready for doing something new, a piece of art or just for fun... I do like the range of colors and the flares and light in this wonderful done collage / illustration Mark!

You have certainly made these paint brushes sing in this unique image. I love the finish you have given them and the bottom ones look quite sensual and mysterious. Excellent work. I hope you are going to celebrate the New Year with friends and family and I hope 2018 brings you good health and much happiness. 😀

You know... There's something to be said for just taking a simple object, like this paintbrush, and exploring all aspects of it... The gentle curves of the handle, the softness of the bristles, the different textures of the whole tool. Then to capture all this with a simple pencil and paper.... I soooo need to get back to my roots (artistically speaking) and just play with graphite. You're inspiring me, Mark! Thanks - I need that sometimes...

Wonderful montage of a acrylic/oil/watercolor painter's tools performed in various art media, Mark. Lots of time and effort went into this tour de force.
