I've once experienced a small rip tide on a small beach in Long Island Sound (near New York). NO FUN! VERY scary. Here it seems the water rose up and grabbed the poor fellows. Water has powerful dynamics, even tearing ships apart. Good they put up a memorial with warning. You did a good photo job - the text is legible despite being all metal. Keep up the good work! :-)

The first time we visited the Oregon coast, I reminded Bill to keep an eye out for sneaker waves, since he'd lived in Kansas for so long, where (of course) there aren't any! As we traveled, I noticed he was less careful than I was about keeping an eye on the ocean, and from time to time I would mention that he needed to look to the ocean a bit more. A year or so later when we were at the coast again, we were hiking down to the beach and saw a sign about beach safety. I'm sure you know what sort I mean. One of the top things they want you to be aware of are sneaker waves. Bill read the sign, and said, "Oh! Sneaker waves are a real thing? I thought you were being funny!" Apparently they don't have sneakers on Long Island where he grew up, and he thought I was just making shit up. He's more careful now!
