Description
Captured 10/24/2010 at the beautiful Los Alamitos Army Field in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. This one was on loan from a private collector.
The T-54 and T-55 tanks are a series of Soviet main battle tanks introduced in the years following the Second World War. The first T-54 prototype was completed at Nizhny Tagil by the end of 1945.[2] Initial production ramp up settled for 1947 at Nizhny Tagil, and 1948 for Kharkov were halted and curtailed as many problems were uncovered; the T-34-85 still accounted for 88 percent of production through the 50's.[2] The T-54 eventually became the main tank for armoured units of the Soviet Army, armies of the Warsaw Pact countries, and many others. T-54s and T-55s have been involved in many of the world's armed conflicts since the later part of the 20th century. The T-54/55 series eventually became the most-produced tank in military history. Estimated production numbers for the series range from 86,000 to 100,000.

As with your car shots, you capture these in various poses so as to get the full tank. The 1st shot is a classic angled shot of a vehicle (this one happening to be a tank), reminiscent of your many fine car shots. The cannon takes us right out of the shot. The second is a side view, showing that strangely rounded top (compared to its American and German counterparts). With your usual fine composition in place. The third lets us see the reach of the cannon, and why standing in front of one of these was an exercise in terror. (Those treads are really thick! And how quaint to see a "keep off" sign in front: That works with bicycles or small cars---but with a tank? It's like putting a "you could get hurt" sign in front of a nuclear warhead, lol.) The final shot---the back view---is so striking: A log in back (!), and that almost 'cute' rounded top. I mean, that rounded top looks almost cute to me---which is hard to say because this is an instrument of artillery terror. You said this came from a private collector---wow: I didn't know people actually collected tanks! Fine display of the presence of a tank...

Nice series of photos illustrating the outside of this well known machine. A lot were captured in the middle east conflicts and some of those wound up in collectors collections. Nice series of photos. Keep up the good work. :-)
