Description

------------------ ...at the edge of the world, I came upon a lighthouse, and a light. I had no idea who put them there, or where they came from. I walked until I faded into the dusk... (just a dream near home) ------------------

Now, see.... Here's a beautiful study in composition and mood. This is wonderful, Mark! the curve of the walkway leads the eye into the image, and is reinforced by the wonderful reflections in the water below it. The main subject - the lighthouse - is reflected in the water's surface again - a brilliant touch. The lens flare gives it a slightly surreal feel, as if it has somehow detaches itself from the lighthouse, and is floating on its own. Wonderful stuff, buddy!

Love the moody, hazy, dreamy atmosphere you've created here, Mark. I'm thinking this is probably in your home town along Lake Michigan, but the mood brings to mind old b&w French movies from the 30's & 40's, probably starring Jean Gabin facing a lonely existential crisis...

What RodS said, and what an uncanny resemblance it has with those small, rugged, battery operated lanterns, which are invulnerable to heat, cold, and being run over by a tank, that they advertise on television. Anyway, great reflection of its light with the halo to its left, plus its ghostly image below. Actually, that is a most unusual lighthouse. It looks so high tech it might be unmanned.

A wonderful mystery image, did he turn back eventually or did he walk into eternity. You have used great effects here to go with the little poem that leaves one wondering. Very well done. 😃

What Harry said. My first impression was that this was a small object, a tabletop toy. Just about everything else has already been said. This is great work, outstanding in every way.

Uh Oh! Is that an alien coming up from the lake and disturb the peaceful scenery here? Hope not. This is such a lovely shot, dear Mark and thank you so much for your beautiful comments in my gallery. :D

s’accende,

ancora si spegne,

più viva risplende.

Così,

sempre ogni notte......

This beautiful work of yours has brought me back to mind some stanzas of a poem, unfortunately I do not remember the author, entitled, If I remember correctly, "The Lighthouse":

(......The lighthouse from afar greets

The tired ferryman that goes.

Shines the great pupil,

Goes off,

Comes on,Still goes off,

The more vivid it shines.

So, Always every night.! )

Very nice photo Mark !!

Every element of this is just right. The lens flare/orb, the position of the light, the single person. Arc of jetty, light reflecting off water, tonal values ... it's stunning.

Very nice capture and postwork Mark.
I could imagine that this would also work quite well as a CD cover.
