That's heavy, and I had to pause to think, which means an excellent story well told. So, my thought is I'm still not sure I like grumpy. His prejudices shattered a family, so now, how does he make reconciliation with it? Does he continue to wallow in his guilt and grief, or will there be an epiphany to lift him up?

And he has been punishing himself ever since. The words we can't take back, the apology we can never give, the twist of fate that robs us of of the chance to make up for hurts. It's bad enough to lose your family but even worse under those circumstances. Powerful stuff.
