Description

Captured on 10/24/2010 at the annual air show held at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. The Stearman (Boeing) Model 75 is a biplane used as a military trainer aircraft, of which at least 10,626 were built in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. Stearman Aircraft became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934. Widely known as the Stearman, Boeing Stearman or Kaydet, it served as a primary trainer for the United States Army Air Forces, the United States Navy (as the NS & N2S), and with the Royal Canadian Air Force as the Kaydet throughout World War II. After the conflict was over, thousands of surplus aircraft were sold on the civilian market. In the immediate postwar years they became popular as crop dusters, sports planes, and for aerobatic and wing walking use in air shows. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia.

Rod would know about these. I had no idea these things were sold to civilians. It's a beautiful, clean aircraft, I assume re-furbished for show. Love the bright yellow and deep red (and the white numbers on the red!) You gave us several views as you always do (though it looks like you couldn't get total access, which must've been frustrating for you). And the bottom shot shows us the cockpits, which are amazing to me; and the mechanical details of the propeller---even more amazing to me. Love the clarity, Harry. And you caught people under the plane (1 through 3): Hope they were meant to be there---it almost looks like the plane dragged them there...Sweet shots, and the last one is marvelous to see.

Hmmm... crop dusting. Reminds me of a poster for a film "North by Northwest" (Hitchcock, 1959) in which Cary Grant is being chased by a plane like this. The poster gave me the creeps when I saw it. Could this be the plane used in the film? Nice looking machine. Nice paint job. When I first saw your post I thought of the Fairy Swordfish torpedo bomber, but the propeller wasn't right. Keep up the good work! :-)
