Description

While we were driving across the Cross Island Road we stopped several times to allow me to take pictures. On one such stop a motorcyclist in a white uniform passed us and my taxi driver Junior and his wife Angela told that this guy was a policeman and that policemen wore white only on Sundays, and that they liked their picture taken. So after I took some pictures of the Catholic Cathedral and other buildings I suggested we go to the police station, only a couple blocks away, also on Beach Street, and asked to have my picture taken. As I stepped into the police station, there were five large policemen, all wearing white. One, which I assumed to be the senior officer present, asked me what they could do for me, in perfect English. I answered that I would like to have my picture taken. and the senior officer asked me why. I told them that I was originally from Germany, that I was always interested in Samoa, and that my taxi driver and his wife had told me that Samoan police wear white only on Sundays, and that they liked to have their picture taken. None of the five officers showed any kind of expression, they just looked at me. I felt stupid. I felt like I stood in front of the principal after I had gotten caught for some sort of mischief. Then the senior officer indicated to what I assumed to be the most junior officer to accommodate me and we went outside. Here we are posing in front of the police headquarters in front of an Australian built Holden. The Australian government had gifted ten Holden automobiles to the Samoan government. BTW, the entire time I was in Samoa, I never saw a Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, or any other kind of luxury car. Most cars were small Japanese or Korean cars or pick-up trucks, many of them 4x4 drives. This picture was taken on 31 December 2017, Sig...
