A painted Spanish dove
Flown to the left bank Seine
To open the 20th century
In cold water flats
Of opium dreams
With periods blue and rose
And modern monsters
Ancient as the shining sun.
Russian ballerinas
Dwelling in labyrinths
With cut paper fragments
And a Spanish civil war
Of hopeless brutality.
Half human half bull
Ransacking the past
To capture the future
Looking forward
And forever back
Listening to the rain
Drowning out
The Blvd.
