This view is from the Tu'imaleali'ifano Loa across the norther tip of the Mulinu'u Peninsula. Somewhere behind those palms is a weather station that was built by Germany after a devastating typhoon hit Apia Harbor on 16 March 1889 that destroyed three German and three American warships and resulted in the death of 92 German and 54 American crew members. Well, better late than never. Samoa just had a category 3 typhoon last week with much flooding. Not sure if the weather station built by the germans nearly hundred years ago is still in operation!
