Description

Today, Valentine's Day, a day dedicated to love we once again were witness to the murder of children. Not in some far off land but here at home. Nowhere on earth does this sort of mass murder happen on a regular basis. This was the eighteenth school shooting in the first forty-five days of 2018. Seventeen died.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their children and those who lost their friends.

at least this time, the perp did not kill himself and was captured alive. I know it is small consolation to those who lost their children or friends maybe now they can get some answers.

The same people that elected 'Rump keep electing the same kind of people that won't impeach him. Their voters are no better.

I'm just back for a comment or two in each gallery, but I saw this when you posted it, Mark, and again I thank you for your immediate responses to horrific events. Since you posted this, a real movement has started, made of the students, parents and teachers from the school where this happened; and joined by others across the country. There was an article in the NYTimes about teachers now asking if they are prepared to take a bullet for their students...and some very confrontational statements were made to the president, who has only now taken a minor step towards eradicating this terrible problem. (Minor.) I hope the movement lasts. The NRA has a lock over legislators across the nation, and the legislators have a lock with the NRA---refusing to risk votes and money, thus encouraging the NRA continue in their medieval, draconian way. Your image drives home the stranglehold of gun interests here; and I didn't realize how many school shootings there had been since Jan 1st. People in other lands don't realize---and maybe Americans have to realize---that our land encompasses the whole of humanity: The elevated, open-minded and caring of human life, down to the draconian, backwards, and medieval. We just have to get it into our heads that we have both extremes and everything in between, and stop thinking of ourselves as 'above' all that, because we're not. There's so much work to be done. Europe needed 2 world wars and a lot of imperialism in its wake (with disastrous consequences across the world), to come to their senses about society and government: This country obviously has a long way to go. We put people though a lot to get a driver's license: Why so much less for a gun? It's wonderful to see you post, Mark, I'm just sorry it had to be for this...and on Valentine's Day too. Powerful statement. And I hope you are well...

I don’t know if you have seen Emma Gonzalez’ magnificent speech. Hearing the grief and anger in her voice gives me hope we may have a future after all. And she is not alone. The survivors have started a movement #Neveragain.

My heart, prayers and hugs goes out to all the families that are grieving the death of their children.

I am not sure where you are however--- I think this has hit us just as hard as the day President John F. Kennedy was killed.

The clock stopped for a brief moment when I saw the live news and again last night watching the debate. My tears rolled with the students and their Principal as each student elected to ask questions and share thier voices.

There is no logic no words and simply no sense to all of this.

Thanks for sharing part of your thoughts === hopefully these kids will make a difference...

Words fail me, when, and what will it take for those people who cry protect our gun laws, to see sense

Unfortunately it appears to be a sickness, Alan. Not so long ago a Congressman nearly lost his life after being shot by a mentally deranged man. When he finally left the hospital he was asked how he felt about gun control. He told the reporter that his support for gun rights was even stronger after being shot. This is a man who is against denying the mentally ill the right to purchase firearms.
