Description
The lighthouse of Armandèche is situated on the continent on the West of the port of Sands-d'Olonne, in Vendée.
Built in 1968 according to the plans of the architect Maurice Durand, it is the last big lighthouse to have been built in France. He holds his name of the locality Armandèche, in Thatch, a district of Sands-d'Olonne. Armandèche is a deformation of "Normandy" which calls back the Norman invasions of the first millennium.
It is a lighthouse of landing, established by a tower tronconique white concrete in hexagonal section and of a lantern painted in red. He replaces the lighthouse of Thatch on the tower of Arundel which is partially hidten by houses.
The peculiarity of its fire is its fixed bulb, the optics turning on a bath of mercury. Of the sea, we see
