Description

My parrot Byron died 26 February 2018 . I had had him 40 years. He was well and happy only a few days ago and started looking a bit poorly on the 23rd, so it was a very short illness. The first sign of an ill bird is sleeping with both feet on the perch, so I saw it coming. The upside is that now I don't need to make arrangements for him after for after I die. This was a constant worry as the right home is hard to find.

A beautiful bird, the problem with our pets, they're a little bit like our children and when they leave, we're very unhappy, courageous.

A most beautiful photo of Byron. When I see parrots I wonder, how much do they understand of what we say? Can they talk and make sense of what they are saying? That makes for an even closer bond to the bird. When I had my 3 rats I knew they would only live 2 to 3 years, but STILL I was so sad when they passed on, one by one. I still miss Blackie though I have my cat Kitty. And now I'm also thinking how long she will live. For my part, I'm 67, Kitty's 5 years old. So, yes, I understand your loss, especially after 40 years! If you have more photos, please post. He seems a very beautiful bird. :-)

He was a lovely bird and living that long makes it harder when they go.

A handsome lad. Don't recall seeing much of him. This is a wonderful portrait. I could swear he's smiling.

He certainly was a handsome fella. 40 years is a very long relationship--he was very much a part of you and your life--I am so very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry Andrea! I remember him so well and your concern, some time ago. Pets connect with us and they become part of family. 40 years is a LIFE!! Much love and joy is shared and you both were lucky to have each other for so long in good health. Certainly is very hard for you, but it was a blessing that it was a short illness. I still 'feel' my dogs, my cats and my canary around.. and they never will be replaced. Each one is unique. I feel deeply for your loss, Andrea.
