The Lockheed VC-121A Constellation "Bataan" has been sold to Lewis Air Legends of Texas. In January 2016, the "Bataan" was flown to Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, CA for restoration by Fighter Rebuilders. The restoration will be completed in early 2018.
Planes of Fame Air Museum’s Lockheed VC-121A Constellation has been sold to Lewis Air Legends of Texas who plans to restore the Aircraft to flying condition. This ‘Connie’ named ‘Bataan’ was the personal aircraft of General Douglas MacArthur Supreme Commander Allied Powers during the Korean War. We look forward to seeing it fly on the Airshow circuit. The Planes of Fame Air Museum acquired the aircraft over 20 years ago and operated it for a short time before putting it on display at our Valle, AZ location. The sale of this aircraft will help advance our mission of preserving aviation history, inspiring interest in aviation, educating the public and honoring aviation pioneers and veterans. (April 10, 2015)
In 1948, the U.S. Air Force ordered from Lockheed ten Model L-749 Constellations and designated them C-121As. The type had a strengthened floor and a large cargo door fitted to the aft fuselage, but could also be fitted with a removable 44-seat passenger cabin, or house 20 stretchers for medevac missions. The ten aircraft (AF serial #s 48-0608 through 0617) were delivered between December 1948 and the first part of 1949 and were based at Westover AFB as part of the Atlantic Division of the Military Air Transport Service (MATS).
Within a short time, eight of the aircraft, including Bataan, were involved in the Berlin Airlift, making almost continuous Atlantic crossings delivering cargo to England or Frankfurt, Germany, for onward transport. Their long range was a big factor; the eight flew over 5 million miles during the Airlift.

Thanks for the photo and the text. I recall flying from Frankfurt am Main (Germany) to Boston in a chartered Connie back in 1955. My father was in a choir at MIT and they were returning to the US after a European music tour.
When LA had the big fires in 1993 (date?) and people had to be evacuated, my brother was flown by a Connie from Orange County (John Wayne International) airport to Oakland airport. It took over twice as long as with a modern jet. He felt this was a real interesting flying experience (mother didn't). He got home at 2:30 AM.
