UF3.
Does the background detract or enhance the image, or is it neutral? Thanks for looking.
Actually, based on the very helpful comments below, this is a reworked version.
The original had a texture pattern in the upper left, that upon reflection based on simon's and stotty's comments, I decided wasn't really working. So I revised it in favor of a fuzzier effect (for lack of better words).
Plus I originally included my new logo, but I really did agree with Andreas and wojteg that the logo's colors were clashing. So I removed it.
If you want to see the original, the upr was posted to the uf mailing list.

It depends which part of the image you regard as the background :-). If you mean the crimson coloured part inside the 'shell' then it definitely enhances the image IMO. The only part of the image I would change (and this is a minor criticism - I really like this image) is the texture in the top left - it feels just a little too regular for my taste. I like very much the way the texture works above the shell. As I say, this is a minor criticism that I wouldn't have made if it didn't seem that you were inviting comment; I very much like the colouring, composition and style of the image as a whole.

Well it doesn't detract or remain neutral so it leaves the other. It looks almost like a steak.

The background is OK, but the spiral is too far out of the center IMO. And the colours of the logo bite those of the image (German expression :-)

First- Thanks fo invitation to discussion :) Second-I agree woth Abmobler, because backgraund on the left is beautiful is almost so important as spiral. And logo-great idea, but can Yuo make it more or less transparent, depends on image :) These are my helpful commments to improving this image :)

Ohhh yup liked it before, but I much prefer the reworking. The unfussy, fuzzy bit :) in the top left, I feel works much better with the overall composition super work.

The texture inside the shape is wonderful. I think I would crop some of the left out. Overall, a stunning image.

Its a great shape, and watch out! those colors can become addicting, lol.
