Description
The Still Life Planter
Vanitas vanitatum, and omnia vanitas! it would be tempting to believe that Vanities painting is easy to maintain. Just let the flowers fade, isn’t it and the play is played. Well, no, because the meaning of these paintings, is not only to remind us that we are all going to die, but also that life is fragile and so, it has no price. This is where the Still Life Planter comes in, which regularly replaces the flowers with others a little less faded, to prolong in us the hope that our life is still fresh. The gardener remains cautious in her actions, because jealous skulls tend to bite her fingers.

Jealous skulls - HA! But they are not the ones getting the beautifying attention. Yes, vanities of vanities. But there is a secret few still life planters know - add a few drops of formalin to the water. After most of the water is evaporated, add a small amount of glycerin to the water. The formalin will preserve/embalm the flower and stem, and the glycerin will keep the plant soft. I learned this from a colleague at my university in Montréal. It works. Keep up the good work! :-)
